Concordia, Elpis - Friday Afternoon

The previous location of the island had been familiar in a way. A little woodsy and, dare he say Elvish, but familiar enough. Yes, even with the slightly murderous bear people.

This one, however, was completely alien.

Thorin found himself eyeing the strange city of Men with its constant announcements about this 'Meriff' person and 'H' shaped monstrosity in the sky above them with no small measure of distaste. Perhaps the land beyond here wpuld prove less strange? AHAHAHAHAno.

[expecting one, but open if you like!]

"They don't look friendly," Lucille said, pointing out the obvious. She tried sticking her arms through it, hoping it would stay on her shoulder.

[dwarvenswagger]

Well, it would have to do. Or they would asphyxiate. No big.

"Men rarely do."

[crimson_sister]

"And Dwarves do?" Lucille felt she had a point.

To prove she was not a coward, she stepped through the doorway before Thorin.

[dwarvenswagger]

"They do!" Thorin insisted, following hot on her heels. When the blue bubble of the Oz kit activated around his head with a strange voice announcing 'No atmosphere detected' he reared back a bit in surprise.

"I'm sure they..." Lucille began, and then she had a blue bubble around her head. She looked at Thorin. He looked ridiculous.

"You look ridiculous."

[dwarvenswagger]

"And you look as you always do," he drawled.

Oh, sick burn, Thorin.

[crimson_sister]

"Are you trying to be funny?" Dwarf humor didn't impress Lucille. "Now, shall we explore the delightful countryside?"

[dwarvenswagger]

He was succeeding at being funny if you asked him.

"I suppose we shall," he said with a little bow to allow her to lead the way across the strange landscape. Was that... lava in the distance?

It surely looked like it was. "This place looks rather barren," Lucille observed. It made the land around Allerdale Hall look like green meadows.

[dwarvenswagger]

"Like the top of a mountain." Or a volcano. Not that he'd been to one because ahahaha Mordor no.

[crimson_sister]

"Well, yes," Lucille said. "I'm sure this will be a lovely walk."

There was sarcasm there, of course, but she didn't want Thorin to think she was in any way afraid.

"I will do my best to keep you from harm," Thorin said with solemn sincerity. As was his duty as prince.

[crimson_sister]

Lucille looked at him, an eyebrow raised. "I feel som much safer."

[dwarvenswagger]

"You should." She so shouldn't. He still still pretty tiny.

[crimson_sister]

Lucille laughed. "Well, good then." She set off towards the lava hill, making sure to take long strides that Thorin might not be able to keep up with. Especially since he had an axe to carry.

[dwarvenswagger]

Okay, that was just rude. "In a hurry?" he asked pointedly.

[crimson_sister]

"Difficult to keep up?" Lucille asked in return.

[dwarvenswagger]

Yes. "No."

[crimson_sister]

"Good," Lucille said. "I thought perhaps you were looking a little short of breath."

[dwarvenswagger]

Was that a joke about his stature? He was almost positive it was.

It was enough to keep him from noticing what could be considered birds circling up above. "I'm fine."

[crimson_sister]

Lucille looked up. "Those birds look rather..."

And then one of them dived at her. After the experience with the bears on Endor, Lucille was more prepared, but she still mostly managed to wave her knife in the air before throwing herself to the side to avoid the bird.

Which was why Thorin was pulling out his ax to smash the poor, poor, ugly bird... thing.

Which shrieked in rage and was promptly joined by it's divebombing compatriots. This was a poor choice on their part.

Lucille stabbed around herself at random, which wasn't a very good strategy either. Perhaps the birds weren't particularly intelligent, or they preferred to take out the more dangerous target first.

[dwarvenswagger]

Any native would safely say the former to be true. But most of the natives were a bit off their rockers, so...

"I think prefer the bears," Thorin snapped, cleaving one in two.

Lucille stabbed again, this time actually managing to hit one of them. It shrieked provided they shriek and barely managed to flap away.

"At least they don't throw nets at you."
