Concordia, Elpis - Friday Afternoon

The previous location of the island had been familiar in a way. A little woodsy and, dare he say Elvish, but familiar enough. Yes, even with the slightly murderous bear people.

This one, however, was completely alien.

Thorin found himself eyeing the strange city of Men with its constant announcements about this 'Meriff' person and 'H' shaped monstrosity in the sky above them with no small measure of distaste. Perhaps the land beyond here wpuld prove less strange? AHAHAHAHAno.

"They were." Lucille had to admit that she for once agreed with Thorin. "I had a brief encounter with them. Vicious little things."

She glanced around. "Although I'm not sure the inhabitants here will offer a warm welcome either."

Yes, they mostly looked like vagrants. Which was strange because there was money in the dumpsters here. And random, unattended cash boxes.

And lockers.

Seriously what even.

"Perhaps outside the city is better?" Nooo, don't get eaten by a kraggan, Thorin!

"I doubt the countryside is pleasant," Lucille replied. "Although I might be surprised."

Perhaps vagrant style was just being fashionable.

Perhaps it was!

"Were you given an... OZ kit... as well?"

He said it so delicately it was adorable.

[crimson_sister]

"I was," Lucille replied. "Were you given instructions on how to use them?

[dwarvenswagger]

"'Put it on'," Thorin replied dryly. "That was all I was told."

Because Elpis. No one cared about your safety here.

She looked at the kit she had been given. "That isn't very helpful."

[dwarvenswagger]

"No, it is not." At least they hadn't been given guns?

[crimson_sister]

They agreed on things a lot today, didn't they?

"Would you consider joining me for a walk?" Lucille was about to add 'because it might be safer' but she didn't want Thorin to think she was frightened. The truth was, however, that she would feel better in a place like this if she had company, even if that company was an annoying Dwarf.

Thorin totally took it that she needed a guardian anyway. Because such was his strange, slightly annoyed version of chivalry for those with less fighting capabilities. "If you wish."

At least he didn't say that out loud, because that would have resulted in an argument.

"This way?" Lucille asked, heading in a direction that seemed to lead out of the city.

[dwarvenswagger]

Always an argument.

Thorin inclined his head in agreement, going through the dingy and ill-kept hallways to one of the strange doorways they were supposed to lead them outside the city.

"Have you explored all the lands we have visited?"

[crimson_sister]

"No," Lucille said. "I haven't. Yourself?" She looked at the doorway. "I assume this leads outside."

[dwarvenswagger]

"A few of them," he admitted, squinting at the strange doorway. He took the moment to step through to find it a vortex that deposited him in yet another building. Though this one was more brightly lit with three vending machines advertising healing, ammo, and guns.

Because Borderlands.

The doorways were indeed strange, just like everything here.

"They have machines selling things." Lucille was clearly not impressed.

[dwarvenswagger]

"They rely heavily on such things."

As evident from the malfunctioning Claptrap unit running into the wall repeatedly. While saying 'Ow' each time.

"To their detriment, I fear."

Lucille was about to say she agreed, but then remembered who she was talking to. "I doubt they even care about it."

She stopped in front of a vending machine and pressed a button.

The machine promptly responded with a cheerful: 'Why loot the dead when you could buy from me?'

Yeah, that was a thing.

"What." Yes, Thorin. This was how the planet rolled.

[crimson_sister]

"I have no intention of looting the dead!" In case Thorin was wondering. "Or buying things from machines. Let's see if we can find a more pleasant place."

She spun around and looked for a way.

[dwarvenswagger]

"I should hope not," Thorin replied primly.

The door outside and onto the planet landscape had a glowing blue sheen to it, but beyond that it was open. Because atmosphere was necessary when indoors and hiding form enemies.

Lucille stopped in front of the door. "I suppose this is where we are supposed to put on those strange 'kits'."

[dwarvenswagger]

"Did you require assistance?" he asked. Because he was always a bit of a dick. Let's be real here.

[crimson_sister]

"Of course not." Lucille gave him a look that aimed to tell him he was being annoying. She examined the kit, trying to figure it out.

[dwarvenswagger]

Well, he knew he was being annoying. It was his thing when it came to her.

Thorin shrugged, eyeing his own kit for a moment before putting it on like a necklace. And, you know, hope for the best. "Perhaps we could inquire with the locals."

No, please don't talk to the scavs. They will try to stab you both.

"They don't look friendly," Lucille said, pointing out the obvious. She tried sticking her arms through it, hoping it would stay on her shoulder.
